FERRY SCHEDULES

http://www.cranberryisles.com/ferries.html
Please visit this website to view the ferry schedules.
Most of you will be coming from Northeast harbor on the Beal and Bunker mail boat.
If you are coming on Sunday the earliest boat that leaves the harbor is 10am.
There is also a 12pm, a 2pm, a 4pm, and a 6pm departure.
Every other day of the week includes a 7:30am departure.

Those of you coming over on Wednesday for the wedding will want to take the 2pm boat from Northeast harbor. However, the ceremony does not start until 4pm, so you will have about an hour 1/2 on the island before hand. You could use this time to explore the island a bit. Colin and I have gone over a few times to hike around. There will also be many people gathered in the park mingling.

There is also the option to come over on the Southwest harbor ferry that departs 3pm and arrives to the island at 3:40pm. The ceremony site is very close by, just a block to walk. We will post signs pointing to the spot.
However, if you choose to come over on the southwest harbor ferry, you will have to pay for your own water taxi to get home at the end of the night because the last ferry back to that harbor is a 6pm. A water taxi cost 45 dollars one way.
If you choose to come from Northeast harbor, we have arranged for boats to take you back at the end of the evening for free, starting at 8:30-11pm.

There are two water taxi services:
Delight water taxi 207-244-5724
Cadillac water taxi 207-801-1898

BOTH FERRIES HAVE CONNECTION STOPS BEFORE THEY REACH LITTLE CRANBERRY ISLAND. The first stop is for Great Cranberry Island- so obviously, you will want to just sit tight for the first stop.

The Northeast Harbor ferry is 12 dollars one way.
The Southwest Harbor is 15 dollars one way (Southwest is a farther boat ride)
Children under 3 are free for both

For those of you staying on the island for a few days, you will be getting a group discount rate.

PARKING:
in Northeast Harbor
There are two options: You can park in the same lot as the police station which is next to the ferry terminal for a 10 dollar a night fee. OR, you can park in the "Joy lot" which does require a parking sticker. We are trying to obtain those now and will make sure everyone coming has one- there is also a free lot that is first come first serve.
In Southwest Harbor:
There are a few lots that also require 10 dollar fees and there is also a free lot. Please email me if you think you will be parking in Southwest so I can give you directions.

ALL OF THIS INFO IS ON THE WEBSITE I POSTED AT THE TOP OF THIS BLOG.

RSVP, food choices.

We sent out the invitations yesterday morning! We are so pleased with how they came out. Things have come along so quickly- just a few weeks until I will have a husband, and he will have a wife!
Last weekend, we went over to the restaurant to pick out our meal options. On the RSVP, you will see a choice between chicken, fish or vegetarian.
Here is a more detailed explanation of each dish-
the most exciting thing is that all of the ingredients are local, fresh and organic. Even the meat is free range and the fish is local.
chicken: Zoe's Organic Roasted Chicken Tide Mill chicken, creamed corn, sauteed Swiss chard with dark meat chicken. The chicken is roasted crispy and the cream corn is nothing like the cream corn you get out of a can. It is made with heavy cream and fresh corn. This is the heaviest of the three choices, and it was really great.
Fish: Gulf of Maine Halibut white beans, fennel, spring onions. The fish is pan seared with butter and sits atop a bed of white beans, fennel and pesto. So fresh.
Vegetarian: Goat Cheese Polenta "Sandwich" cherry tomato salad, haricot vert.
This is AWESOME. They make a goat cheese polenta cake and fill is with the tomatoes and the haricot vert beans. It is pickley and fresh and light!
PLEASE RSVP soon. We would really like to get an estimate as soon as possible. We asked people to draw us a picture of what love is to them on the back of the rsvp. As many of you know, art is such an important part of our lives and our love. We look forward to seeing how you express it in some abstract form.
I will be posting the parking and ferry schedules in a separate post next week.
For those of you planning to stay in a hotel off of little cranberry island- I can certainly suggest the best locations... but the most important thing is to NOT stay in Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is a half hour from the ferry. There are two ferry terminals- one is in Southwest Harbor, and the other is in Northeast Harbor. The main land is made up of those three coves. SO, def. look for a place in the two I just mentioned. My second Blog post lists tons of the best options, but if your still wondering where to stay- just email me. lynnslocum@hotmail.com
Also, I'll be seeing many of you at my shower in a couple weeks at mom's house. SO excited!!
Love, Love, Love. Don't forget to RSVP!

3 months to go...

Just three months to go before the big day. This spring has been such an amazing time for us. The weather has been just beautiful and the excitement of our fast approaching wedding is growing. The details have been working themselves out and everything seems to be falling into place as planned.
I haven't been posting too much on the blog lately, but will pick back up as we get into the summer months.
We are still working on the itinerary for the week- and of course will post more details soon. The summer ferry schedules will come out soon, as well as the rates for ferry passes in groups. I have met the boat captain a few times now and Im pretty sure he will hook us up with some week passes.
Also, parking will be a consideration for people staying on the island, so with my next blog, I will be sure to include the maps, the parking areas, the fees, bus schedules (there is free public bus service on the island!)as well as the best restaurants and fun spots around town...
just wanted to make a quick update in case anyone is checking in. Be sure to check back a few times this summer!
Our invitations will be going out in a few weeks!
Love Love Love!

getting excited!

Two months of wedding planning under our belts.... We are getting excited that spring is approaching and the details of our day are coming together. I hope by now everyone has considered where they might be staying. Accommodations up here are pretty abundant, but they do fill up pretty quick too. This area literally doubles in population in the summer, and the tourists are everywhere...
It seems most everyone is coming on Sunday or Monday, and most are staying until Thursday or staying through to the following weekend. There is so much to do here for the outdoor enthusiasts.. I thought I would create a blog with some suggestions. of course we will probably try to put together some group things.. but there looks like there will be plenty of time for people to explore Acadia on their own too.
Again, as the summer months arrive, i will update the blog with a more detailed schedule of events... Tuesday afternoon we are hoping to put together a BBQ on the island, for people to meet each other... and Wednesday of course is wedding day!
Here are some ideas for the other days...
Hiking!

-There are over 120 miles of hiking trails in the park. Trails range from short, level walks to steep Precipice climbs. Connecting trails enable hikers to scale several peaks in one trip. John D. Rockefeller, Jr., financed and directed the building of 57 miles of carriage roads. These carriage roads are a network of woodland roads free of motor vehicles, for hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders and carriages. -
The Precipice is one of the parks most difficult trails- it is actually a climb although, it doesnt require gear, just a very careful footing.
One of the parks most enjoyable walks is around Jordon Pond- it is a series of huge wood planks that twist through the woods around the water. At the end of the walk you can get a blueberry popover at a beautiful tea house on the water.
You can pick up hiking guides here that will give full lists and descriptions of each hike. The two I mentioned is the most challenging and the most leisurely.

Biking-sea kayaking.
There are more than a few places here to rent bikes and kayaks- for kayaking, there are guided sea tours as well.

accommodations

Hopefully everyone has received their "save the date" post cards by now....
so here come the details...
For those of you driving, im sure everyone knows how to use www.mapquest.com by now. If you would like me to send you directions, please let me know.
For those of you flying, there is an airport right here in Bar harbor, as well as in Bangor. Bangor is about an hour 1/2 from our house.
We live on Mount Desert Island, right in the heart of Acadia national park. The island is broken down into three coves: Bar harbor, Southwest harbor, and Northeast harbor.
You will be driving to Northeast harbor or Southwest harbor to board the ferries for little cranberry island.
All three towns are one street towns, so it's pretty hard to get lost once you arrive into town. there will be signs for the ferries (hard to miss.)
http://www.cranberryisles.com/ferries.html go to this link to view the schedules for the ferries from each harbor as well as the prices.
Many of you will be staying right on little cranberry island in house rentals. But for those of you interested in staying in other accommodations back on the main island... here are some suggestions:
Northeast harbor:
Northeast harbor is the smallest cove of the island. There is only one major hotel

in Northeast harbor:
http://www.kimballterraceinn.com/ (the rates are very reasonable)
this hotel is in the same parking lot as the ferry dock- so definitely the closest.

any other accommodations in Northeast harbor are going to be bed and breakfast's and cottage rentals. The bed and breakfast's are typically in huge, turn of the century, antique style mansions. Much of Northeast harbor is owned by the Rockefeller's and even Martha Stewart has a home here!
http://www.greyrockinn.com/
http://asticou.com/
these are beautiful, but a much more intimate experience to stay in a bed and breakfast (for those of you who never have)
there is also the ability to rent a small cottage. These are really cute, miniature houses that are all over the islands. And the rates can be very reasonable.
http://www.summerhousecottagerentals.com/index.htm

In Southwest harbor:
You may want to consider looking into Southwest harbor- we hope some people will take the ferries from this part of the island so the Northeast harbor ferry doesn't get over swamped.
Southwest Harbor is a little more happening- there are more restaurants, bars, and accommodations.
http://www.harborviewmotelandcottages.com/
these cottages are really quaint and cheap!
http://mansetcottagerentals.com/pages/cottages.htm
there are a lot of hotels that do not have their own websites. Go to google, and type in hotels in southwest harbor... there are plenty. if you find some place you are interested in, just pass it by me and I can tell you if it's a good deal.

In Bar Harbor:
Bar Harbor is by far the biggest attraction of Acadia national park. Everyone flocks to this part of the island. It gets pretty congested in the summer with tourists- lots of restaurants, side walk shops, and the most hotels.
however, it is the farthest from the ferry docks. If some of you are interested in staying a few days extra- then Bar Harbor would be the best cove to stay in. There are tons of activities and things to look into all over the island, but bar harbor has the most.
I will post activities and things to do in the next blog.
hope these links help, and please don't hesitate to email me for suggestions.

we set the date and picked the place....

September 1, 2010!

Little Cranberry island, Maine.

The Islesford dock Restaurant!

We are really excited to announce that we have picked the place and set the date for our wedding.... We hope everyone can come! We created this blog to list accommodations, and directions.... as the event gets closer, we will list ferry schedules, and all of the itinerary planned for the week of our wedding here....Everyone is welcome to come up a few days early and spend some time exploring the islands. We are really looking forward to showing people where we have been living! Please spend some time checking out acadia national park online. There is plenty to do here in the summer, and again, as the date gets closer, we will make plenty of suggestions and list contact information for various activities. For starters, check out little cranberry island at islesford.com. This is where the wedding will be. the website lists weekly house rentals for those of you interested in staying for more than a day... as well as ferry schedules, pictures, and events.Northeast harbor, and southwest harbor are the two main harbors you will be taking the ferry from to get to little cranberry island. It is a ten to 15 minute ferry ride to the island, and rates are about 8 dollars. In the summer, the ferries run nearly every hour from one or the other harbor. There are tons of hotels and cottage rentals in both southwest and northeast harbor for those of you just interested in renting for one or two evenings, and again, we will list all of them here in the coming months.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

we are encouraging people to rsvp with as much notice as possible or even if you are just thinking of making the trip, we would like to know as soon as possible because of the island location. We will need to notify the town for overnight parking passes and the ferries for large groups!
